MBPA Education Forum Series

MBPA Forum | Summer 2012

The topic is: Adoption of the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code

MBPA worked with Fresh Energy to respond to many questions and concerns about the upcoming MN adoption of the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code.  We sought to present accurate cost and conservation projections as well as address some of the concerns raised by the Builders’ Association of MN.  This Powerpoint Presentation includes several different presentations by various experts.  It starts with an overview of the 2012 IECC presented by Isaac Elnecave from the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance.  Paul Morin from the Energy Conservatory presented cost estimates from builders already implementing the more stringent code and calculated savings projections based on advanced energy modeling of a 2012 IECC code minimum home.  We then had 3 presentations of examples of implementation.  Rachel Wagner, an architect in Duluth, presented information about Northern MN climate differences as well as the importance of this new code for a severe climate.  Molly Berg from Greater MN Habitat for Humanity presented some of their work and practices they have adopted that support a more stringent code.  Pat Huelman from the University of MN Cold Climate Program showed some foundation detail options that comply with the 2012 IECC that the University has been working on to present to the MN Department of Labor and Industry.  We had about 50 people attend this forum and had excellent questions and discussion.  If you are interested in more details about this forum, please email us at info@mbpa.us.
