Combination Heating and Hot Water Systems: Overview (part 1 of 3) from MN Building Performance Assn on Vimeo.

A single source heating system provides both the central heat and domestic hot water for a home from a single burner.
This is Sam Greene's overview of the technology and its practical applications. He dispels some common misconceptions about single source systems. He explains that with a combination of proper setup and homeowner education, these systems make a home both more efficient and more liveable. The combination system is also ideal for use with other green technologies such as solar panels.

Combination Heating and Hot Water Systems: Comparisons (part 2 of 3) from MN Building Performance Assn on Vimeo.

Jake McAlpine explains the inner workings of nine units that deliver both central heat and domestic hot water. He explores the pros and cons of combination boilers (Prestige Excellence pe110, Navian ch210, Rinnai Q175C, Rinnai e75), tankless water heaters (Eternal gu195sm, Rinnai rc98hpi), and tank-style water heaters (American pg10 34-100-2nv, HTP Phoenix, A.O. Smith Vertex) He also discusses three air handlers with integrated HRV units that can make these combination heating systems work in homes set up for forced air heat (Nu Air en7124e, Life Breath cafus4a24e16, Rinnai 37ahb06012aa5)

Combination Heating and Hot Water Systems: Lab Testing (part 3 of 3) from MN Building Performance Assn on Vimeo.

A single source heating system provides both the central heat and domestic hot water for a home from a single burner.
Sustainable Resource Center received an innovation grant to study various combination heating systems prior to installing them in 400 Minnesota homes. With nine models installed, SRC's "Efficiency Lab" is able to compare performance in a variety of situations.
Ben Schoenbauer explains the lab setup and demonstrates some real-time testing results.
